The Miami Center for Racial Justice was established as a non-profit organization in 2020 following the George Floyd incident. The purpose of the Center is to tell and preserve the true black history of Florida, especially those stories that are difficult to hear. The Center, a 501c3 qualified organization based at Barry University, aims to educate young Floridians, especially so that their voices will carry those stories forward to future generations. Our primary methods include preparing lesson plans for Florida school districts. The Center has written over twenty such plans that are available to teachers and students on dunnhistory.com the website sponsored by the Center. The website contains the stories and facts of Florida’s black history that the Center plans to teach, preserve, and carry forward.    The Center will conduct two Teach the Truth Tours each year for high school students. The tours will cover several locations where racial violence has occurred in Florida. These stops will include Mims, Newberry, Ocoee, Rosewood, and possibly others. The first Teach the Truth Tour will take place on the 100-year recognition of the Rosewood Massacre of 1923. The Center will open its Rosewood Park on Sunday, January 8, 2023, on property in Rosewood that is owned by African American historian Dr. Marvin Dunn who is the only black person who owns land in Rosewood today.
